Vision and Mission

We envision a community where barriers are broken down and positive relationships are created, therefore First In Families (FIF) of Mecklenburg County’s mission is … to provide persons with developmental disabilities and/or their families the opportunity to request assistance when needed and to empower them with the knowledge and confidence to pursue their own life choices.

First In Families (FIF) is a project of Residential & Support Services, Inc. (RSS), that partners with families, individuals, and the general community to help fulfill the unmet needs of people with developmental disabilities and their families. FIF is a state-funded program that was developed from a grassroots initiative to create a system that was customer and family driven. The goal of this project is to provide persons with developmental disabilities and/or their families the opportunity to request assistance with specific needs that cannot be met through other resources.

How We Help

First In Families believes that there are many forms of assistance in addition to money that can be utilized to help families. These include information, partnerships with the community, and donated resources. FIF works to build relationships between the family and the community that utilize these resources to help foster self-sufficiency.
